Biggest Loser + Deals = Fun
February 4, 2009
So many people have entered my giveaway and I’m so excited to be able to giveaway something that I feel has helped me become more nutritious, and that is saying a lot. I am the queen of fast food, and going to the supermarket is hard for me because I think that the labels would never tell a lie, which is not true. Remember to enter by posting a comment on this blog if you haven’t already!
Most of you know I have a love for the Biggest Loser TV show. Last nights episode was another great one, but I really felt bad for Carla. She wanted it so badly and worked SO hard during the entire show. Where did the producers ever find Joelle? The yellow team and pink teams had it right. “Whenever Joelle opened her mouth whatever came out didn’t make sense.” She was spouting off about going to a higher intensity. What in the world was she talking about. Granted it showed her wandering the gym and never really ‘doing’ anything, but that could also be how they wanted to portray her. Either way, I’m glad that Carla can do it at home, and someone please get Joelle some help!
For working out, I’m still sore from the half this past weekend, but I have vowed that tomorrow morning I’m going to go for a short three mile jog and take it really easy. It’s hard for me to run ‘easier’ than my normal pace, and I hope to ‘learn’ how to do that during my training for my upcoming marathon. I need to realize not every mile needs to be working hard and that sometimes, just getting out there and increasing my endurance and mileage are what I need to succeed.
So today I found a whole bunch of workout stuff on Sale from a bunch of random sites. Enjoy!
Nike Women’s New Cardio Club Jacket. It’s on sale for a variety of prices for different colors, but they are all less than the listing price of $65.00. It’s Dri-FIT with a stand-up collar that looks sleek wherever you decide to wear it. The convenient full-front zip allows for easy on and off, while the side pockets allow you to carry everything you need.

Lightweight frames minimize pressure and bulk while providing exceptional comfort; flexible frames adjust to the shape of the head for a secure fit. Anti-microbial finish combats the buildup of odor-causing bacteria; covers are removable for easy cleaning. Reflective accents increase your visibility in low light.
Normally: $28, Now: $10.83 Get yours here!
And even though I posted about these sweet things before, I’m posting again because they are the coolest things ever. Nite Tec Ear-Warmers from REI. For nighttime running and walking, these ear-warmers provide added visibility with an LED light and a design that lets you hear more clearly than conventional ear-warmers. Inside each ear-warmer cover is a Nite Ize LED red light strip that increases your visibility in low light; light strip can be set to on, flashing or off. Patented design wraps securely 180° around the back of your head; on-demand ear sleeves lock it securely in place during high activity. Nite Ize LED light strip can be removed from the cover for washing or battery replacement.
Normally: $45, Now: $15. 83 Get yours here!
So I hope that gave you enough deals to drool over! Tomorrow I’m going to post a new recipe that is delicious and a great workout that I’ve been doing that has really helped me get more toned.

So yesterday morning I told you guys that I did the biggest loser workout video for a measly 20 minutes. 5 minute warm up. 10 minute sculpt. 5 minute cool down. That’s it. Also you could choose to do the weights if you wanted, but since I didn’t have any, I used two remotes for the TV. Yea, envision that odd picture.
I AM SO SORE TODAY I CAN BARELY MOVE. Seriously, I can’t remember being this sore in a few years. This makes me think that the move this weekend is going to be tough. At least we live downstairs!
I was going to run tonight before the Biggest Loser, but I am thinking that I need a day of rest for the week, so instead I’ll be going to Target after work to see if I can find any good stuff for the new pad.
On another note, there hasn’t been many good sales lately on running gear, which is why my posting has stopped with links. I think that many stores are just still recovering from Christmas. I did find this little gem, Nike Pro Womens Core Tight Long Sleeve Mock is available in many colors but the pink and grey one shown below is on sale right now for 15.Th97 at the Sports Authority Outlet. There are some other colors as well, but they are all for 23.99, which is still a good price.
I have seen this shirt in person and it looks super warm and comfy and I love wearing Nike Pro stuff because it fits so well. The material is so nice and I really feel that Nike has upped the game when it comes to their running stuff. Since it’s been in the 80′s here in CA, I am not going to be purchasing much more warm weather attire.
Thanks for all the nice comments about the new place. I’m not moving in with Mr. R, but one of my best friends from back in middle school and high school. I’ll take more pictures once we actually move in and it becomes a little home. On racing news, I am currently contemplating the Rock and Roll San Diego FULL Marathon. It’s May 31st, five months before I actually thought I would run one, since I was looking to have Portland Marathon be my first. I’ve completely lost my mind, but am also up for some solid training plan ideas if anyone has some good ones. I am so grateful to the running community online for inspiring, encouraging, and offering up so many ideas and tips.
Coming up in the near future I plan to share some stories about a problem with the police while running, a review of the running skirt, and my plane ride up north over Christmas break, which was quite funny.

I’m moving!
January 14, 2009
So the good news that I was excited to share is that I will be moving, THIS WEEKEND! I’m super excited because I have been waiting for this opportunity and it seemed to come up this past weekend. I will be living in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach and the apartment is literally one block away from the beach. The area is really fun and there is a little area literally walking distance away with one of a kind shops and cute little places to eat. The best part is that it’s a GREAT running location. The beach has a big path on it, where the long beach 1/2 marathon was run, and the streets around are very running friendly, minding a few out of control drivers.
Anyways, here’s a few pictures.
Yea, that blue stuff…. THAT’S THE OCEAN
The little house in the complex that we are renting. Super cute. I feel like we are living in Germany or something.
I’m super excited to be moving and into such a prime location. Little Chic Runner is all grown up!
As for working out, last night I went to the gym and hit the weights HARD. I am sore this morning and my arms were shaking last night. I worked a lot of my back and my arms, which is good for my weight training. Also this morning I did a quick 20 minute workout from the Biggest Loser Video and it KICKED MY BUTT. I am still sore as I type and I was sweating like a beast and I don’t sweat. I’m looking forward to doing more of those!
Anyways, much to catch up on at work. Hope everyone had a wonderful Monday enjoying the bachelor, and is jealous of my new homestead.
I’m excited for Biggest Loser tonight, but unfortunately won’t be watching the episode until tomorrow evening, since tonight I’m going out to my best friend and now roommate’s Birthday Dinner!

January 6, 2009
So I signed up for all my races through March yesterday. That left a little dent in the wallet to say the least, but here they are:
January 10 (as in this weekend) – Kaiser Permanente 1/2 in Irvine, CA
February 1 – Huntington Beach 1/2, CA
February 7 – Chili Trail Run 4 miler in Irvine, CA
February 21 – Race on the Base 10k in Los Alamitos, CA
March 8 – Malibu Creek 9k, Malibu, CA
March 29, Wine Country 1/2, Paso Robles, CA
So as you can see, this weekend I’ll be running a 1/2. I figured I needed to put in miles and just getting out there will be good for me. I have no insane goals because I know I’m not completely ready to push myself to the limit just quite yet, but it will be fun to race and I know the mileage will be really good.
I feel like these races are all very different from one another and most of my previous races and I’m really excited to try out the few trail runs I have signed up for. I think I will really enjoy the trail running aspect and I’m excited to try out my new shoes!
As for training, I talked about it with Mr. R, and he told me, “Look, you know how to run already, you should really think about strength training more.” I agree with him because strength equals speed. So therefore I am going to put in decent longer runs, but also work mostly on getting stronger, at least for right now. I know having a strong body for running is important and I know I could possibly have the weakest upper body around. My legs are good and strong from my miles, but my arms are about as useless as a T-rex’s arms.
So therefore in order to get stronger I’m going to do weight training twice a week, and then possibly take a class or do a video Pilate’s or yoga once a week, and cut back my running to three or four days a week, and just run more miles during these runs. I know if I get my core strong and upper body and my back to be strong I will be a much better running in the long term. I was also working really hard at sit ups, but during the holidays I kind of let that fall to the wayside. I know that the sit ups were really helping me so I want to get back to that and also I want to work hard at doing more push ups to make my back stronger.
This weekend, my goal is to finish in between 1:50 and 2:10. I know it’s a broad range, and I won’t be disappointed if I don’t hit that, but I’m also going to enjoy the race and just view it as a long training run with supporters all around me and free water and snacks! Another one of my goals this race is to practice running and drinking. The last half I did I had a big problem with the handling, sipping, the throwing, then the dodging of others cups. It was all just a little overwhelming so I’m really going to work on drinking during the race and I’m going to even try to eat a gu while running, which I’ve also never done before, and see if I can see a major difference. Of course I’ll be downing some delicious shot blox before the race like candy as well.
As for the other races, as they come near I’ll be posting their specific goals, and they will be much more precise and better than this weekend’s goals. 2009 is going to be a year of training and excitement! Even though I signed up for a lot of races, I would encourage you guys to sign up for races and get a race calendar going. Whether it’s a run/walk, a 5k, a 10k, or a marathon, just having a goal to complete that race is so motivational. It’s fun to count down until the day, and working out with an upcoming race also gives you a purpose to work out.
Having a workout plan is the best way to tackle exercise. Today since I’m talking about training, I wanted to share a great site with you guys.
It’s a great site that was started by Wes and Allyson Felix. Yes, the Allison Felix that just won the gold medal in Beijing for the Olympics. Oddly enough, Mr. R even knows Wes and he’s also a super legit runner. The website is full of great training tips and tricks that you can do on your own that really help tone and promote an overall healthy lifestyle. The best part about the website is that there is a free email newsletter that is created specifically for women. Once you sign up, you receive workouts in your email three times a week that were created by a personal trainer. It’s a lot of different ideas and stuff to target special areas, which is really great. They also have a fashion section on their website, with SUPER cute gym clothes and where to buy them, and also a health and then of course the fitness section. They also have great food, music and fashion sections, and a fun and upbeat blog that motivates and has great articles about everything in life.
I signed up for the site, and have been nothing but blow away by their ideas and getting the emails with the workouts is nice because it gives me the ability to mix things up. At the least I would encourage you to go over and check out what they have, it’s FREE after all. What more can a FREE workout in your email hurt?
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do, and have a great day! Tonight I’m going to be putting in a five miler at the park by Mr. R’s house before we watch the BL! If you haven’t watched Biggest Loser before, tonight’s the night, get hooked!

Didgeridoo
November 19, 2008
Yes, you heard me right. If you watched last nights Biggest Loser episode, you know that Ed said that they would be in “didgeridoo” if they lost. What was he talking about? Oh Ed and Heba. This is a didgeridoo… So how would you all be in there?
Anyways, I was a little shocked at the outcome, and though Amy C. was my hero last week, I don’t know if she made the right decision this week. I do admire her ability to ‘forgive and forget’ so to speak with how she kept Vicki after how many times did she call her a backstabbing B? And taking a bite from the Apple? Seriously Vicki is on some type of drug, I tell you.
I will really miss Coleen on the show, and oh by the way, what happened to individual play. Amy C, the moment you fall below your own ‘blue team’ is going to throw you under the bus no questions asked. Bob even was shocked that she sent Brady home, but seriously Bob, she wants to win Biggest Loser, not allow the Blue Team to win. It’s one person who wins, not teams. Anyways, enough venting about Biggest Loser.
Amp’d Abs was really good on Monday, and I did my 20-20-20 and I really feel that it gets a lot of my muscles working and my heart rate going, which is really the key to any work out your going to be doing. I wasn’t sore after the Abs class Tuesday like I was the week before, and I feel like it’s really helping tone. I forget how many different things you can do that really work your abs, including planks, and many different ways of doing sit ups. Tonight I have Amp’d Abs again and I’ll probably do a 30 minute run and a 20 minute bike. Watching them do spin yesterday on the show made me want to get out there and get working out hardcore again.
I am going to run outside tomorrow morning for the first time since the fires happened. The smoke and ash have subsided so that means back out to pound the pavement. It’s only until something gets taken away from you that you realize how much you miss it. What a feeling it is to have that brisk morning air nip at my cheeks and cut through my clothes into my bones. To be able to be outside when no one else is around, it’s irreplaceable.
Today my hat will be delivered! It seemed like it took long enough, so I finally tracked the package this morning. I am so excited to try it out and I’ll let you know how it goes and if it really works as well as the Nike site said it would.
I also found on the Nike site that in their sale section you can purchase shirts from many of the races they’ve put on. So even if you weren’t able to get into many of their sold out races you can still get the t-shirt. Kind of cheating, but oh well, if you really want a shirt they have some cute ones. Good luck on maneuvering that site though, it’s quite the confusing and unorganized site.
I am kind of in a funky weird mood lately. I guess growing up means some things must be let go, and thought it’s hard, I know that it’s a fact of life. I think I’m realizing some peoples true colors, and though painful, I know that it’s for the best. I never thought I would be thankful to the blogging community, but I am glad that everyone is so supportive and has such good advice for so many different things. Who would have guessed it!
